Research Integrity and Ethics: Bringing Good Scientific Practices into Focus at IIMCB

On 23 and 26 October 2026, the IIMCB hosted a two-day “Research Integrity and Ethics” training course organized by the Scientific Coordination Unit. The event brought together IIMCB researchers and guests from other Polish research institutions.
Combining lectures with practical workshops and case studies, the training covered good research practices, research misconduct, ethical regulations and responsible conduct of research, including studies involving humans, animals and genetically modified organisms.
The sessions were delivered by René Custers from VIB and Helen Nickerson from the University of Edinburgh, representing RACE partner institutions, alongside IIMCB experts Iwona Pilecka, Agnieszka Wilamowska and Olga Gewartowska. The programme also featured invited speakers Emilia Kaczmarek from the University of Warsaw and Anna Czarnecka (KKE, NCBR), who contributed expertise on research ethics and regulatory requirements.
The training received positive feedback, with participants particularly appreciating the hands-on workshops, case studies and practical examples. Among the most valued topics were procedures for reporting research misconduct and preparing research data for publication.
As one of the first training initiatives of this kind held at IIMCB in a long time, the event highlighted the value of interactive, practice-oriented learning. Building on participants’ feedback, the RACE team will consider organising similar courses in the future and further refining their format.
The training supported the project’s efforts to strengthen research competencies and promote responsible scientific practices and was organized as a part of WP 2 (RACE Events).
